RAC Christmas Pageant 2018

Another Christmas brings another Christmas Pageant!

This year we had 27 vintage/1920's themed dancers leading the old Swan River Paddle Steamer along the parade. Dressed in vintage flapper costumes and top & tail coats our performers were stunning. As well as our dancers we were lucky enough to have 8 of our students invited to sit on the pirate ship float with Peter Pan & Captain Feathersword.

Congratulations to everyone at Showtime involved with the planning, rehearsals, costumes and the performers - we are so proud of the outcome. We also wish to thank the Channel 7 team for having us for another year in the Christmas Pageant, we look forward to applying again next year.

Next up is the Armadale Christmas Parade! We cant wait!

Showtime HMS Finalist in Business Armadale Awards

This week Showtime HMS received the exciting news that we have been recognised as a finalist for the 2018 Business Excellence Awards for the category Employer of Choice.

The Business Armadale & Examiner Newspaper awards night will be held on Friday 16th November at Araluen Botanic Park where the winners will be announced.

At Showtime HMS we pride ourselves on being able to offer employment opportunities to young people so they can follow their dreams and work in an industry they are passionate about. Our student teacher program helps our students develop the necessary skills to one day become a dance teacher should they wish to take that path, and this year one of our long term student teachers, Gemma, has excelled in the program. After successful application and interviewing Gemma will be joining the Showtime HMS teaching team for 2019.

We cannot be prouder to be nominated and selected as a finalist for this award.

Friday Night Bites

Friday 2nd November was our first performance at Friday Night Bites.

Friday Night Bites is a food truck event in Harrisdale run by Little Market Place and Showtime HMS were invited to perform for the public in November and again in January.

Our performance team entertained the public with 8 routines combined of jazz, lyrical, hip hop, musical theatre and ballet. We had a range of students aged from 8yrs up to 24yrs perform on the night.

It was a chilly night and dancing on grass is never the easiest however our professional team of dancers made it work and wowed the audience.

See us perform again on Friday 18th January!

Spring Performances

Spring has been a busy time for Showtime HMS students!

On Saturday 27th October we were invited to perform for the Forrestdale Primary School 40th Anniversary Fair. For many of our students it was a busy day with their regular classes in the morning and then straight to the fair to perform at 2:30pm. That's what we call dedication! It was a beautiful day and our competition and specially selected dancers looked stunning on stage.

But that wasn't the end of it for many of our students! Most went on to perform the following day for the Piara Waters Community Festival. The City of Armadale had invited Showtime HMS to perform and get involved with their interactive stalls for the day. At the Showtime HMS stall we were teaching community members how to moonwalk. It was so exciting to see many youngsters, and adults, get involved and give it a go. We received great feedback from the audience regarding our students on stage performance and are so proud of their professionalism at both events on the weekend.

Coming next is our performance at Friday Night Bites on the 2nd November - As we said, it's a busy time at Showtime HMS but we wouldn't have it any other way!

Kwinana Dance Festival 2018

The school holidays saw the last of our competitions for the year with the Kwinana Dance Festival. This season we had quite a few students competing with their first ever solo and we couldn't be prouder of them! They remembered their dances and didn't let nerves get the best of them, some even coming home with places from their first ever competition.

Congratulations to all of our students involved and a big thank you goes to our teachers for their wonderful choreography and taking the time out of their break to come and support the students.

This year we sent our students off to a new set of competitions, Star Struck Dance Challenge, held over a Friday night and Sunday. Everyone also loved being able to watch the other performers and their peers throughout the competition.

Star Search Festival 2018

Over the first week of school holidays 24 of our students braved the competition scene at the Star Search Dance Festival. Going on stage knowing you are being judged & graded is so much harder than going on stage just to perform for an audience so we salute all our students that had the courage to get up there!

Coming home with a placing or honourable mention is a great achievement and of course exciting for the students, however as a teacher the best part about the last week at competitions was seeing our students support each other and take the time out of their holidays to come watch and cheer on their peers. Showtime staff have been so proud of all students and parents involved.

We have also had many students who in the past didn't have the confidence to compete with a solo whom now, after dancing with their peers in duo's & trio's, are keen to get out there themselves and do a solo for the next set of competitions. This is what competitions is all about, it doesn't matter if you win or not, but the confidence and stage experience you gain by being involved is priceless! Great work Showtime!!!
