Kingsley Primary School Fair 2019

On the Saturday 2nd November a group of Showtime students performed at the Kingsley primary school 50th anniversary fete. Students performed a mix of routines from earlier in the year. Congratulations and well done to all students who participated and danced with large smiles while having lots of fun, as well as continuing to represent Showtime HMS to an excellent standard.

State Dance Association Exams

At the beginning of 2019 Showtime HMS  had introduced both ballet and jazz State Dance Association exam classes into the timetable. These exam classes included new material and techniques being taught in preparation to the students’ exams in term 4.

The exam classes required attention, dedication and practice. In class the students learnt a number of exercises, theory, correct terminology and short dances which they had to memorise completely for the exam. Students who were in these exam classes weren’t forced into participating in the exam, so if they felt that they weren’t ready they can remain in the same grade and participate in the exam the following year.

However, those students who were ready to complete their exams had mock exams which helped prepare the students for the real event which was just a few weeks after the mock exams. These mock exams helped students understand how the exam would work and outlined exactly what they knew and what needed some improvement in class before the actual exams.

Mock exams were spread over a few days and were held on Monday 2nd, Thursday 5th and Saturday 7th of September.

The actual State Dance Association examinations were run over two days, Friday 18th and Saturday the 19th of October where they were assessed by an SDA examiner.

A huge congratulations to all student who participated because not only did all our students pass, but everyone received a result of commended (65%) or above.

Phly Crew Workshop

On Sunday 6th of October Aimee and Neale came to Showtime HMS to give our students an opportunity to participate in a workshop. Resulting in Professionals teaching combos and new tricks. Workshops are always a great experience that are so much fun.

These workshops were available for a range of ages as they had a junior/beginner workshop for those aged 9-12-year old’s and a senior workshop for those dancers 12 years or older.

The workshops consisted of a fun Sunday filled with 2 hours of dancing fun. The juniors learned lyrical with Aimee and jazz/funk/hip hop with Neale while the seniors learned jazz with Neale and lyrical with Aimee. As well as the students workshops the teachers of Showtime HMS were in for a treat with a 1-hour private staff workshop which both Aimee and Neale ran together to teach the Showtime teachers’ and student teachers new tricks and teaching techniques.

We love having Phly Crew at Showtime HMS and can't wait to have them back again soon!

Australian Dance Festival Sydney Tour 2019

In September this year, seven of our students flew over to Sydney to attend the Australian Dance Festival for a weekend of workshops with some of Australia’s best and inspiring choreographers. Friday to Sunday our students attended workshops at Sydney Olympic Park along with hundreds of dancers from across Australia.

Our students participated in workshops in a variety of styles of dance from choreographers including Marko Panzic, Stephen Tannos, the O’neill Twins, Yvette Lee, Neale Whittaker, James Barry, Cat Santos, Elly Creevy, Will Sabin, Jason Winters, Matt Lee, Michael Dameski and many more. After very long days of dancing, our students attended performances from the Resonate program, Australia’s Best Dance Crew, Australia’s Next Choreographer, as well as the Dance Around the World Solo Competitions.

To end the trip, a day was spent sightseeing in Sydney, visiting the Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Madame Tussaud's, and Luna Park. All of our students had an amazing time in Sydney learning and building our dance knowledge in such an exciting and positive environment. Despite being completely exhausted our students are already excited about returning in 2021 for another weekend of all things dance!

Starstruck Dance Challenge 2019

Following some amazing results achieved at Starstruck Dance Challenge in 2018, Showtime students competed again this year over two weekends in August.

Our competitors worked extremely hard in the first half of the year leading up to the competition and this reflected in the outstanding performances by all and the results achieved. Students received various placings from honourable mentions to 1st place. Showtime students even took home three overall highest scoring awards and Miss Gemma won the Senior Star Performer Award.
