Express Dance Challenge 2020

The Express Dance Challenge is just one of the many annual dance competitions that our Showtime students compete in each year. Being held in April our students typically work hard on their routines in the first months of the year. However, due to Covid restrictions this competition was forced to be cancelled and rescheduled. Being postponed till September our students continued to work hard on their routines and in turn brought home some spectacular results. All our competitors enjoyed their time on stage after a long wait to be able to perform again.

Results:

Olivia Petrie: Acro solo, Honourable Mention

Isabelle Portier: Lyrical solo, Special Mention

Harmonie Bloomfield: Jazz solo, Special Mention

Havana Diaz: Jazz solo, Special Mention

Pointe Shoe Decorating

In the July school holidays we held a pointe shoe decorating workshop here at our Showtime studio. 20 of our students attended creating some stunning, sparkly, and striking designs whilst having lots of fun and having lots of laughs. Those who participated took their designs home to display as a gorgeous keepsake. Have a look at some of the beautiful pointe shoes below!

COVID-19 Shutdown

This year came with many changes and challenges for staff and students at Showtime as the Corona Virus forced the closure of our studio. Additional to this for the first time in 23 years our Mid-year concert was cancelled due to restrictions on large gatherings. This meant that it would be the first year where we only perform one concert for our friends and family. This upset many of our staff and students who are always keen to get up on stage and put on a show at any opportunity.

However, in the famous words ‘The Show Must Go On’ our staff began teaching online classes live to our exam students through zoom. This allowed our students to keep on top of their technique and to keep them involved with what they love doing through those difficult months. Additional videos of choreography created by teachers at Showtime were uploaded to Google Classroom and we loved seeing their videos of dancing at home.

Our studio was reopened on the 18th of May allowing us to finally see all our students again face to face. This was a new experience for both our staff and students however everyone worked hard to make it work and proved how dedicated and hard working our students are!

Welcome Miss Elena Fey

Our Showtime family was incredibly happy to meet our newest family member Elena Fey Rogers after Miss Miranda gave birth in April!  Miss Miranda is one of our longest running students here at Showtime and teaches our students in various styles including jazz, tap and hip hop. Miss Miranda was also our very first Student of the Year in 2004. We are so excited to introduce Elena and can’t wait for her to follow her mum’s footsteps here at Showtime. Congratulations Miss Miranda & partner Kaleb!

Dancing With The Stars Competition

In the early months of the year Showtime students got the opportunity to be involved in Channel 10’s TV show competition, filming and submitting a fun and creative dance video cheering on our favourite competitor Angie Kent!

Angie has starred in various reality TV shows including Gogglebox, The Bachelorette, and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. Our students used this as inspiration to create a relatable and entertaining video for Angie. We also learnt of Angie’s love for dogs and her foster care of numerous pups, so we even let Max, Ms Rita’s dog join in on the fun in our video!

Angie loved our video commenting “Go Girls!!! I Love this” on our Instagram page and also sent an additional message complimenting our cute Max and expressing her excitement to see the full video! Our students had lots of fun, experiencing new levels of creativity and involvement in the Australian Dance TV show, Dancing With the Stars!

End Of Year Concert – SMIA Awards Night

Showtime HMS wrapped up 2019 with two huge concerts on Saturday 21st December.

Themed as a music awards night our audience members were VIP guests at the SMIA (Showtime Music Industry Awards). Who would be the best dressed star on the red carpet? Which great artists will win an award? All was revealed throughout our concert hosted by our musical theatre student Alexis.

It is such a pleasure to see how much our students enjoy being on stage and performing for their family and friends. Showtime staff love to see how students develop and improve their performance skills and confidence throughout the year and shine on stage.

Congratulations to all performers and staff that helped put on such a wonderful show. We now take a well deserved break before commencing for an even bigger year in 2020.

Christmas Pageants 2019

On the 6th and 7th of December a group of Showtime students had the chance to dance in the Armadale and Alinta Perth Christmas pageants. All dressed up in Christmas colours, sparkly green, red and candy cane costumes, our students danced down Jull Street in Armadale and St George’s Terrace in Perth with big smiles. We would like to congratulate our students on how well they danced in both pageants and represented Showtime HMS.
