End of Year Concert; 2020 A Year to Remember

After a year of setbacks, disappointments, and bumps in the road we finally made it to the end of the year! After having to cancel our mid-year concert our staff and students were more than excited to hold our end of year concert and commemorate a tough but triumphant year for us all.

Both our Junior and Senior concerts were held at John Curtin Theatre in Fremantle where friends and family came to watch our students showcase their hard work from throughout the year. Everyone performed exceptionally well, and we are more than proud of their efforts at the annual event. All our classes and exam classes performed routines forming a concert to remember not only how challenging this year has been but also to show the resilience and strength we gained to overcome it.

We had numerous award winners including our 2020 Student of the Year, Isabelle Portier. Isabelle is an extremely dedicated and hard-working student and her efforts this year in her dance training proves her especially worthy of this award! Congratulations Isabelle!

Champion Lakes Christmas Party

In December, our students received the opportunity to perform for our local community at a Christmas Party at Champion Lakes. The locals loved our performers as much as our students loved dancing amongst them in a joyous family event. Our Jazz exam 2, jazz exam 3, beginner hip hop and pre-primary jazz classes all performed beautifully with smiles all around! Well done to all those who participated!

Winner of the Corporate Live Wire WA Prestige Award “Dance Class Service of the Year”

Showtime HMS was extremely proud to accept the Corporate Live Wire WA Prestige Award as the Dance Class Service of the Year this November! The award is given out amongst other regional awards to recognise businesses that are extremely successful and hard working on a local level. We are honoured to receive this award and to be recognised as being a dedicated and inclusive business for children and their families.

Show Struck Dance Quest

In recognition of the inability of our students to compete in many competitions during 2020 Showtime HMS and Star Struck Dance Studio formed a private dance competition for both studios’ students. Students competed using their own choreography in front of family and friends at the Armadale Town Hall. We saw some amazing routines filled with creativity and entertaining performances from both studios. We are very proud of all students who got up there and showed us their love for dance with the results they achieved.

Some of our students from Showtime were selected from their impressive performances to showcase their routines at our annual end of year concert.

Junior concert selected routines:

  • Havana and Isabelle Jazz Duo
  • Braydee Audrain Contemporary Solo
  • Leah Booth Jazz Solo
  • Hteemoowah Hansen Hip Hop Solo

Senior concert selected routines:

  • Hayley Dorrington Contemporary Solo
  • Nivrithi Arun Hip Hop Solo
  • The Portier Family Trio

SDA Competition

This year the State Dance Association introduced a new competition for dancers all over Australia enabling them to submit videos of their routines in order to compete. We then all logged in to Zoom at the same time to watch all the other competitors and see the judges decision. Students spent time in the studio rehearsing and filming their routines with upmost professionalism. Our competitors made us extremely proud with their efforts in this new experience and achieved magnificent results!

Results:

Havana and Isabelle: Jazz duo, 1st Place

Braydee Audrain: Contemporary solo, 3rd Place

Havana Diaz: Contemporary solo, Honourable Mention

Isabelle Portier: Jazz solo, Honourable Mention

State Dance Association Exams

For the past two years our students here at Showtime have been given the opportunity to participate in jazz and ballet exam classes. Each year in October the exam class students undertake a practical exam at the Showtime studio in front of an external examiner.

Due to the unexpected closure of our studio in March and the continued disruptions throughout the year, we made the decision to replace the full examination with a performance exam. The performance exam consisted of each exam class demonstrating the skills and technique they learnt throughout the year in a dance presented to the examiner. This gave the students the opportunity to express their development and showcase that they are on the way to completing the full exam in 2021.

Our older students in the Jazz grade 5 class were the exception and managed to complete the full exam in an incredibly unpredictable year and received amazing results. All of our students passed and we congratulate many who did their first ever exam!
